Bobbi Martin takes on Harper Valley PTA

Image
Bobbi Martin 45 single Harper Valley PTA / I Think of You.  Bobbi was from Baltimore and her producer Henry was fixated on her having a country sound. Maybe because of her country accent or because of her closeness to country folks. This led him to giving her the title song Harper Valley PTA to record at the same time, and even before Jeannie C. Reilly. Bobbi's version of the song was chaotic and very pop/ rock. It would only go to #114 on the bubbling under billboard while the other now "standard" country version would become a massive #1 hit.  With this song, Bobbi had the chance to record her first album on her new label, United Artists. The album was titled unsurprisingly "Harper Valley PTA," a pure country album with covers of "Misty Blue," and "Gentle on Your Mind," being staples on the album. These songs were already becoming classics in the field. Songs like "Empty Arms," and "Be Mine," were done with slow arran...

Joey’s take on Old Radio

In a world where there was once no blinking light screen in the home which is called television, radio was on the rise in the 1930's during the onset of the great depression.    It's hard for me to imagine a world without the internet anymore, let alone television.  The movie theatre would be the only place where someone could go to see a screen before their eyes. Most nights, families would stay home and listen to a radio and imagine the pictures in their mind.   Recently, I have been listening to the Jack Benny and Hedda Hopper show on radio, I enjoy listening to the way they talk. I like to create my own pictures in a my mind in a medium that is quite unlike anything else.    Radio has gone into a big decline with Spotify being what many could consider their form of radio today. Radio is only by waves. The only time to hear a radio is when you are in the car, if that, or in a mall, or an office. I personally hate to be in an office and have to...

Joey Sharp's Top 40 Intake - September Billboard '24

Image
This week the billboard magazine comes out with its list of popular songs and here is Joey Sharp with his response from the hillbilly Ozarks.    Hello folks, It's Joey. This week, the chart has reserved its first two spots for country songs. The first one was a bar song I could not stand to listen to all because who wants to hear a bar song, I sure don't, not really. The 2nd one was "I Had Some Help," by Post Malone and Morgan Wallen.  "Birds of a feather," by Billie Ellish is doing fine at #5. A pretty good song in her usual style.   Chappell Roan is popular and the talk of the music business. "Good Luck Babe," is at #6 and a pretty great song. Hot To Go and Pink Pony Club are top 40 hits as well.   Sabrinia Carpenter has "Espresso," at #7 and "Please, Please, Please," at #9. These are my favorite songs right now and listening to her I hear a bit of a country sound in her voice, a bit like Dolly Partin, I think.  "Millio...
